SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Summerside Police Services asks businesses and the public to pay special attention to $50 and $100 bills after several fakes were turned in recently.
Police are investigating several instances of counterfeit money being passed, or attempting to be passed, in the Summerside area over the last week.
So far, police have four open investigations but believe there is likely more fake money in circulation.
The money is of poor quality, made from real paper, and the bills are smaller than real money but could be overlooked in a busy environment.
The clear security panels on the bills are either taped on or photocopied from another bill of a different denomination.
The counterfeit $100 bills have all been marked with serial number FKC1034330. The false $50s are marked with either GHP7439466 or AMF3489436.
Police are asking businesses and the general public to call police regarding any suspicious currency.
Anyone with information in relation to these incidents are asked to call the Summerside Police Service at 902-432-1201 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
