BORDEN-CARLETON, P.E.I. - Some light poles missing from the Confederation Bridge recently weren’t the victim of highs winds, says a spokeswoman for the bridge.

Instead, the lights are being replaced as part of regular maintenance whenever the weather permits.

Light poles along the bridge have broken off in the past, which prompted bridge engineers to inspect all of them and recommend replacing some as a precautionary measure.

In 2015, heavy winds reaching a high of 158 km/h during a winter storm snapped 11 lights posts on the bridge.

There are 310 street lights along the entire 12.9-kilometre span.
