ALBERTON, P.E.I. — Town council is renewing calls to the Island Waste Management Corporation seeking more carts for a Church Street apartment building.
Council heard a complaint from a neighbor of the 472 Church Street apartment building during its April meeting suggesting there are not a sufficient number of carts to support the number of tenants in the building.
The resident is worried this could lead to a rodent problem.
Mayor David Gordon said he was told on a previous call to Waste Watch that there is a sufficient number of carts for the way the building is zoned.
Therein lies the problem, Gordon suggested. The building owners are continuing with renovations to increase the number of tenants without the necessary permits or rezoning. Council has already refused permits and Gordon said stop work orders have been ignored.
“It’s in (Waste Watch’s) hands to put more cans there and they won’t because it is not zoned,” Gordon said in a subsequent interview.
