CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — It's the time of year when people have put away the snowblower and are dusting off the lawnmower and putting the patio furniture out.
It's also the time of year when Charlottetown’s public works department purchases things like new equipment and vehicles it will need for the season ahead.
Public works manager Scott Adams said this year's purchases, all approved in the 2020-21 capital budget, are about on par with most years in the municipality.
The following is a breakdown of what council approved at its regular public meeting in May:
- $39,640 for three upside-down trapezoids that mount on a truck that can dump materials (a hydraulic dump box) from Parts for Trucks;
- $30,566 for a tow-behind woodchipper from MacFarland’s Industrial;
- $202,631 for three 3,500 series crew cab truck chassis and one full-sized marked police vehicle from Reliable Motors Ltd.;
- $217,308 for three half-tonne crew cab trucks and one 5,500 series crew cab truck chassis from Summerside Chrysler Dodge;
- $1,463,000 for the construction of prefab concrete components to Stescon Ltd. for the addition to the Fitzroy Parkade;
- $51,476 for a trailer-mounted 600-gallon tank hydroseeder from Park Lane Marketing Ltd.;
- $95.34 per hour to rent a backhoe and truck for culvert services from Lea MacDonald Construction;
- $351,483 for the supply of hot asphalt for the 2020 season from Island Construction Ltd.;
- $293,997 for ready-mix concrete from Schurman Concrete;
- $347,489 for a wheel loader complete with the bucket, wing and plow assembly from Toromont Cat (Maritimes);
- $45,568 for asphalt testing services for the 2020 season from East Tech Engineering Consultants Inc.;
- $31,648 for the spring tree order from Dutchmaster;
- $673,440 for four municipal sidewalk tractors and attachments from Saunders Equipment Ltd.
