CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown polices are warning the public about a scam involving the website Indeed.

Over the last few days, police have received several complaints of people falling victim to this scam.

The scam does vary – the victim applies for a job on Indeed and replies directly to the fictitious employer.

That “employer” contacts the victim and conducts a job interview, the employer then contacts the victim and advises they are the successful candidate and instructs them that a cheque will be sent and that it should be deposited into their bank account, and that gift cards (such as Amazon) be purchased, or that all or part of the money be transferred back to them.

The public is being reminded that a legitimate employer would never ask for gift cards, cash or any other form of monetary item sent to them.

Be vigilant, if something appears to be too good to be true, it likely is.
