A 19-year-old Summerside man who provided breath samples that were almost three times the legal limit has been charged with drunk driving.

At 4 a.m. on Feb. 27, Charlottetown Police Services responded to a complaint of a single vehicle collision that occurred on the UPEI campus near the soccer turf field.

The driver had minor injuries that were treated by Island EMS on scene.

Police determined the driver displayed signs of being impaired by alcohol and was arrested.

The driver was subsequently charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

The accused will appear in provincial court at a later date.

On Feb. 28 shortly after 1 p.m., police responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver.

Police located the vehicle in a parking lot on Kensington Road.

Police determined the driver was impaired by drugs and was arrested.

An officer trained as a drug recognition expert confirmed the driver was under the influence of drugs and made the demand that a blood sample be provided.

Impaired driving charges are pending the blood sample toxicology results.
