BORDEN-CARLETON, P.E.I. - The Town of Borden-Carleton’s current deputy mayor, Charles MacKenzie is moving on up to mayor. MacKenzie, with 120 of the 310 ballots cast, won the three-person mayor race by 28 votes over Robert Palmer (92). Shane MacLean was third with 91 votes.
The six council seats were hotly contested by 12 candidates including three incumbents. Randy Ahearn was the only incumbent returned, polling third overall among council candidates with 181 ballots. Leading the way in balloting were Larry Allen and Laurel Palmer-Thompson with 187 and 186 votes respectively. Also elected to council are Nicole Bernard-Arsenault, 154; Barb Wood, 149 and Fred Leard, 141.
Next in balloting but missing out on a seat were incumbents Eric Stewart, 127 and Shawn Jessome, 125. Four other candidates also did not secure a seat at the table, Mitch MacDonald, 110; Kathy DesRoches, 109; Julie Hamilton, 100 and Connie Lorraine Doerksen, 56.
