GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A 40-year-old Cardigan woman will spend 45 days in jail after assaulting both her husband and her daughter.

Karen Darlene White pleaded guilty to two counts of assault Thursday, Feb. 28, in provincial court in Georgetown.

She was sentenced to 15 days for slapping her husband in the face while he was driving.

She received 30 days for kicking her daughter – an incident that has had a deep, negative impact on the victim, court heard. White had become angry after learning her two children were moving out.

“This court has said several times that people should be able to live together without fear of violence or threats,’’ said Chief Provincial Court Judge Nancy Orr.

White was also ordered to pay restitution of slightly over $1,000 to her daughter to cover the cost to replace a cell phone White broke during the assault.

White has a history of being abused and suffering from mental health issues.

She recently enrolled in a cognitive behavioural therapy course.
