CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A mental health assessment for a woman charged with two counts of infanticide is finally finished.

Shannon Dawn Rayner made a brief appearance before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown Friday after several previous adjournments while the court waited for the assessment.

Douglas ordered the assessment in November 2018, but there were several delays and extensions granted since then.

That included Douglas issuing a new order for an assessment in an attempt to get it finished faster.

On Friday, defence lawyer Thane MacEachern ask for a three-week adjournment because he hadn’t had a chance to review the assessment report with Rayner.

The matter will be back before the courts on April 9.
