Islanders are waking up Sunday to yet another increase in the cost of gasoline across the province.
The Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC) hiked prices at the pumps by 3.5 cents per litre (cpl) as of 12:01 a.m.
That means the cost of regular unleaded gas at self-serve outlets now ranges from 125.4 to 126.5 cpl.
IRAC also dropped propane prices by 0.5 cpl for Superior Propane and by 2.1 cpl for Kenmac Energy, but increased the cost by 1 cpl for Irving Energy.
There was no change to the price of furnace oil, stove oil or diesel at this time. The maximum price for furnace oil remains at 92.2 cpl, plus tax.
IRAC said continued escalation in gasoline pricing driven by increased demand necessitated the pricing adjustments.
On April 1, gas prices rose 1.7 cents per litre in IRAC’s regularly scheduled adjustment, but they’d already taken an unscheduled 3.9 cpl jump about a week before on March 23.
The commission’s next scheduled adjustment is May 1.
