SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The City of Summerside has passed an update to its employee pension plan.
The change clarifies what spouses or former spouses are entitled to in terms of an employee’s pension plan.
Specifically, the change states that “under no circumstances may the spouse or former spouse receive a lump sum payment from the plan while the member remains a member of the plan.”
City staff said a situation developed some time ago that prompted this change. It has since been dealt with and there is no current litigation that would be impacted by this change.
