Schools - Delays/Closures

All public schools across P.E.I. are closed, including the Public Schools Branch and French Language School Board families of schools.

Grace Christian School is closed for the day.

All Holland College centres are closed for the day.

UPEI is closed for the day.

All Collège de l'Île campuses are closed for the day.

Maritime Christian College is closed for the day.

Motessori School is closed for the day.


Health P.E.I.

Due to inclement weather and road conditions, the following health service(s) scheduled for today are impacted:

As of 9:30 a.m.

  • All primary care appointments at Alberton Health Centre are cancelled
  • All primary care appointments at O’Leary Health Centre are cancelled
  • All primary care appointments at Tyne Valley Health Centre are cancelled

As of 7:40 a.m.

  • Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Clinic in Morell is cancelled
  • Women’s Wellness and Sexual Health Services appointments at The Polyclinic in Charlottetown are cancelled
  • Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab session at Credit Union Place in Summerside is cancelled

Health P.E.I. reminds Islanders with appointments at hospitals, clinics and other health care services to please call ahead to confirm their appointment, or notify staff if they are unable to make the appointment.

Islanders are also reminded to call 811 for non-urgent health care advice or 911 in the event of an emergency.

Weather

Snow at times heavy beginning early this morning then changing to ice pellets or snow near noon and then changing to rain this afternoon.

There is a risk of freezing rain this morning and early this afternoon, with blowing snow over exposed areas this morning.

Snow and ice pellets are expected to amount to 10 cm; rainfall amount of 5 mm is expected.

Southeast winds gusting up to 90 km/h are expected near noon. Today’s high is 3 C.

Rain ending this evening then mainly cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of rain showers late this evening and after midnight, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries overnight.

Southeast winds will continue this evening, gusting up to 90 km/h then becoming 50 km/h. Tonight’s low is 1 C.

WIND WARNING IN EFFECT: The special weather statement has ended for P.E.I., but strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occurring.

An intensifying low-pressure system will approach the region today. Strengthening southeasterly winds can be expected today with gusts near 90 km/h by noon. Winds will ease this evening.

Additionally, snow ahead of this system will begin this morning and change over to rain by the afternoon.

This snow combined with high winds will reduce visibility in blowing snow. Snowfall amounts of near 10 cm are expected. Rain will taper to showers this evening.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur.

Motorists should be prepared to adjust their driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Confederation Bridge

Bridge Traffic Restriction: For user safety, the Confederation Bridge has restricted certain classes of vehicles from crossing until the current high wind situation changes.

Restricted classes include:

  • Automobiles towing trailers,
  • Motorcycles,
  • High-sided vehicles including trucks, tractor trailers, recreational vehicles, and buses.


Bridge restrictions were put into place today at 9 a.m.

Charlottetown Airport

TRAVEL ALERT: A travel alert has been issued for Charlottetown. 

Travellers could expect delays and cancellations.

Visit the airline's website to re-book and/or to check on flight status.

Delays:

Air Canada flight 7750 scheduled to arrive in Charlottetown from Halifax at 9:01 a.m. has been delayed until 9:31 a.m.

Air Canada flight 7751 scheduled to depart Charlottetown heading to Halifax at 9:20 a.m. has been delayed until 9:46 a.m.
