ALBERTON, P.E.I. — The Town of Alberton will not be proceeding with plans to hire a bylaw enforcement officer.

“Not at this time,” Mayor David Gordon said during the town’s monthly meeting Monday night.

His council had agreed last month to hire an enforcement officer, if neighbouring municipalities were also on board to help share the expense.

Gordon had brokered a meeting between the mayors of Alberton, Tignish and O’Leary about a bylaw enforcement officer interested in providing one-day-a-week service for the three municipalities.

Gordon told his council that Tignish has since declined the offer and O’Leary was also reluctant.

“Right now, it is at a standstill. I know the Town of Alberton can’t take it on by themselves. Not at this time," he said.

“That’s on hold right now."
