CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — P.E.I. has two new cases of COVID-19, Dr. Heather Morrison announced this afternoon.
Both cases are men in their 20s. P.E.I. now has 26 active cases with a total of 141 positive cases since the pandemic began.
“There are now more active cases of COVID-19 in P.E.I. than we had at any other point in the pandemic, and I remain concerned about the current outbreak in our province,” said Morrison, the province's chief public health officer.
One new case was a close contact of a previously announced case. The new case first tested negative but, after developing symptoms, tested positive. He is in self-isolation and public health is following up daily.
The other case was at a public exposure site more than a week ago and he also initially tested negative. After developing mild symptoms, he too tested positive. He is now in self-isolation and close contacts are being tested and public health is doing follow-ups.
Morrison urged Islanders to follow ramped-up COVID-19 protocols.
“All Islanders are encouraged to respect the circuit-breaker measures that are in place, including keep your circle of contacts small, stay home when not feeling well, and maintain a physical distance from people outside your household.”
People with any COVID-19 symptoms should get tested, even if they have had a negative test, Morrison said.
She encouraged all Islanders to download the free national COVID Alert app, which will alert users if they’ve been exposed to someone who has tested positive.

Information about the province’s COVID-19 cases is available online.
