SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - A family-style restaurant in Kensington is on the move to a bigger space in the heart of the town.
Charlene and Ron Gill announced they are moving their restaurant, Family and Friends, currently located in the Trailside Plaza along Route 2, to 45 Broadway St. this month.
“The new place is a lot bigger and our lease was up here,” said Ron. “A friend told us that Broadway 45 restaurant was looking to lease a space, so we made the call on Dec. 20 and the move has already started.”
Despite the new location, everything will remain the same for Family and Friends – including the menu, name and staff.
“Broadway 45 will still run the other business that makes incredible meat pies called the Home Place, so they will still be cooking and making everything in the basement and we will be taking over the upstairs location,” said Charlene. “I think it will be a good aspect for the town because our business is well established and we have a good name, so we will definitely bring a lot to Kensington.”
Family and Friends will close Jan. 21 and reopen four days later in the new location.
“We’ve been in this location going on six years, and yes we put a lot of time and work into this place, so we will miss it,” said Charlene. “But the other location is a beautiful building thanks to the owners Austin and Ramona Roberts.”
“And it’s right in town so it will make a big difference with walking traffic and tourism in the summer,” said Ron.
The current location of Family and Friends will soon be available for lease.
“We have a lot of work ahead of us,” said Ron. “We have an outside deck that has to be taken down, a building out back that has to move, heat pumps, all the equipment in the kitchen.”
