O'LEARY, P.E.I. — As part of its efforts to provide enriched housing options for seniors living in central West Prince, the Community Seniors’ Co-operative Ltd. (CSCL) has recently hired a project manager.
Jordan MacDonald was hired through Skills P.E.I.’s Work Experience Program.
The co-operative continues to work with partners to design a facility that will incorporate 35 community care units and 15 affordable seniors’ apartments, all with energy efficiency and accessibility top-of-mind for the planning group.
MacDonald, who resides in the O’Leary area and has office space in the O’Leary Town Complex, says he has worked hard to learn about the co-operative’s history, its vision for the facility and the many other partners and organizations it will need to engage to achieve its goal.
The CSCL has applied for funding through the Canadian Mental Health Association – P.E.I. Division and is completing funding applications with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
The co-operative is also raising awareness of the Seniors Housing Program offered through the Department of Social Development and Housing, and encourages interested individuals to determine whether they meet criteria for affordable apartments.
“Having seniors in our community apply to this program and qualify for the Provincial Housing Registry will demonstrate that we need these affordable housing units,” said Sally Lockhart, chairwoman of the CSCL Board of Directors.
