SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The redevelopment of the former Heritage Trailer Park has taken another step forward.
Summerside’s planning board gave tentative approval to the project late last week.
The development, now referred to as Dory View By Water's Edge, still requires further approval by the full council. That vote will be at the April 15 meeting. The developer is 100018 PEI Inc.
The proposal is to divide the property into 28 lots, 27 of which would be for single family homes and one, which already houses a Royal LePage Realty Office, would remain zoned as commercial.
The developer has proposed building a relatively small stand-alone home on each lot and offering them as rental units.
City staff have reviewed the company’s plans and had no concerns.
This parcel of land, located off Water Street East, was previously Heritage Trailer Park.
In mid-May 2018 residents of the park were given six months to vacate. The park was set to close on Nov. 30, 2018.
Residents were forced to find other places to live or relocate their mobile homes. A community campaign was launched to help those who were struggling to find alternative arrangements.
About 21 families ended up receiving about $3,000 each to help with their costs.
