SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Editor’s note: A total of 86 occurrences were investigated by Prince District RCMP between Feb. 11 and Feb. 17. The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigations.

Man charged with dangerous driving, attempting to flee the police

On Feb. 11, at about 9 a.m., West Prince RCMP attempted to pull over a vehicle for speeding on Route 2. The vehicle, driven by a 17-year-old man from Harper, failed to stop for police and hit a snowbank at the intersection of Route 2 and Route 151.The man was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police. He is scheduled to attend court in mid-March.

Theft complaint prompts police response

On Feb. 13 at about 10 a.m., West Prince RCMP received a complaint of theft of meat products from the Tignish Co-op.The suspects have been identified and the matter is still under investigation.

Man charged with assault and impaired driving

On Feb. 13 at about 6 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint from a 38-year-old female stating she was assaulted by a 45-year-old man.The man was later arrested and charged with assault and impaired driving, he was released on conditions and is scheduled to attend court in early April.

One injured in two vehicle collision.

On Feb. 14 at about 5:30 p.m.,West Prince RCMP attended the scene of a two-vehicle collision on Route 14 in Burton. As a result of the collision, one person was transported to hospital with a possible broken wrist and one driver was issued a warning under the Highway Traffic Act, for failing to properly yield.

Police check on driver

On Feb. 15 at about 6:35 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Route 101 in Burlington. The complainant explained the vehicle was driving slower than the posted speed limit and appeared to not have its lights on. Police located the vehicle shortly after and confirmed the driver was not impaired. He forgotten to turn on his headlights and was still driving with daytime running lights.

Man charged with Mischief

On Feb. 15 at around 10:30 p.m., East Prince RCMP responded to a disturbance in New Annan. After arriving at the residence, police arrested a 23-year-old man for damaging property. He was charged under the Criminal Code for mischief and is scheduled to appear in court in early April.

Stolen vehicle found

On Feb.16 at about 12:00 p.m., East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a stolen pick-up truck from a business located in Slemon Park. The vehicle was located in Portage and an investigation is continuing.

Recaps and reminders

During this past week, Prince District RCMP received 16 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. Five of these complaints were of vehicles passing a school bus with their red lights activated. The red flashing light on a school bus requires the driver to stop and the fine is up to $5,000 and 12 demerit point, along with a three-month suspension of their licence. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints throughout the remainder of the month of February, in various communities across Prince District, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
