DARTMOUTH, N.S. — A 25-year-old man is dead and police are still searching for his killer after they responded to a weapons call in Dartmouth on Thursday night.
Police were called to an apartment building at 24 Primrose St. at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The man died in hospital at about 1 a.m. Friday morning, police said. He is not being identified, pending his next-of-kin being notified.
Police spokeswoman Wendy Mansfield said police found the man outside the building when they arrived at the scene.
More than a dozen evidence markers had been placed in the parking lot of the building, which is at the intersection of Primrose Street and Robert Burns Drive. The area around the building includes a mix of small apartment buildings and single-family homes.
The entrance to the parking lot is on Primrose Street, but the front of the building faces Robert Burns Drive. Parts of both streets were closed until the supper hour Friday afternoon while police gathered evidence, and police anticipate Primrose Street won't reopen until about 5 p.m. Friday.
Mansfield said police aren't commenting on the type of weapon used. She wouldn't say where the attack on the man is believed to have happened, but "we do have some areas of the building closed (to residents), and they remain closed."
Police say they don't believe the killing was a random act.
Mansfield said police aren't releasing whether of not they have recovered the weapon used in the killing.
They are asking anyone with information to call them at 902-490-5020, or to submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or a secure web tip to www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or by using the P3 Tips app.
