Sobeys has confirmed an employee at its Topsail Road location has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a brief statement, issued Monday morning, Sobeys said the worker was in the pharmacy section.
“Pharmacy employee in St. John’s location tested positive for COVID-19. The last day the employee worked was March 26,” reads the statement.
“Public Health has recommended self-isolation for select pharmacy employees. We have completed a deep clean and sanitized the store.”
Health Minister John Haggie did not have much information on the specific case.
“I know public health here would have been engaged in contact tracing and those people who were at risk would have been identified and advised appropriately,” said Haggie.
Sobeys did not answer multiple requests for comment by the Telegram.
Haggie did have advice for anyone headed to the grocery store for essential supplies as the public health emergency rolls on.
“Shopping can now no longer be a family activity. Shopping has to be for things that are essential to keep your family and your household going, week over week, as this pandemic evolves,” he said.
“One person, one trip, each week. Don’t take your children with you, unless there is really no alternative. And please don’t let them lick the handles on the shopping cart.”
Costco investigation continues
Elsewhere, reports of a COVID-19 positive person visiting Costco in St. John’s on Saturday remain under investigation.
“We continue to follow up on information related to reports of a person attending Costco,” read a brief statement from RNC constable James Cadigan.
“We are directing anyone with information relating to compliance with the special measures put in place by government officials to utilize the online reporting mechanism.”
There have been no cases of COVID-19 linked to Costco announced as of Monday.
