Transportation Safety Board investigators are in Gilliam after a small plane went down near the town’s airport on Wednesday evening.

Gillam RCMP say the plane, a Keewatin Air medevac flight carrying two pilots and two flight paramedics, crashed around 7 p.m. while attempting to make an emergency landing in Gillam, which is around 740 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

The Beechcraft Super King Air 200 was en route from Winnipeg to Churchill at the time. RCMP say it landed on the frozen lake before coming to a stop at the edge of the runway.

RCMP say that no injuries were reported in the crash but all four people onboard were taken to hospital as a precaution.

A spokesperson for the TSB said they were unsure what may have prompted the emergency landing attempt. Investigators are expected to have more information about the crash on Friday.
