ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says it has arrested a 41-year-old man in connection with a series of armed robberies in St. John;’s earlier this week.
The RNC says on Tuesday evening, members of the Criminal Investigation Division arrested a man and a woman in connection with the investigation into robberies of a gas station convenience store and a bank as well as a car-jacking, all occurring from early Monday morning to that same afternoon and all in St. John’s
The man has been charged with three counts of robbery, three counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, three counts of disguise with intent, three counts of using a firearm during the commission of an offence, and breach of a court order.
Meanwhile, a 27-year-old woman was placed in custody after execution of an outstanding arrest warrant.
Both parties were held to appear in Provincial Court.
The investigation remains active, especially as reports from the scenes say there were two men involved in the robberies.
The first occurred at a Freshwater Road service station shortly after midnight on Monday. Two men, one carrying what was described as a pistol, entered the business and approached the counter demanding cash and cigarettes, which they made off with prior to police arrival.
At approximately 4:10 p.m. that same day, police officers were called to St. Clare’s Hospital, where they were informed two men had approached a vehicle with a firearm, again described to be handgun-style, demanding the occupant exit the vehicle. The men then fled the area operating the vehicle.
A short time later, the RNC received a report of an armed robbery at a bank in Churchill Square. Two men had entered the bank and approached a teller presenting a firearm, again described to be a handgun. After obtaining cash, they fled, running to a blue vehicle in the area of Linden Place.
At noon on Tuesday. Seven hours later, they made the arrests.
