ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — At the St. John’s Farmers’ Market on Sunday, the usual vegetable vendors were swapped for something a little less earthy, a little more out of this world.

There were cosplayers in costume, science-fiction collectibles and gadgets, Halloween-themed soaps and more at The Market from Another Dimension — a special sci-fi and fantasy market organized by the St. John’s Farmers’ Market.

Costumes ranged in their intricacy. Philippe Enguehard said his costume of a space marine from the game Warhammer took a year to make, and involved a lot of trial and error.

The St. John’s resident said much of his costume was made by repurposing children’s play mats, which could be bent and cut into various shapes. He used dryer ducts for the legs.

He said making the costume was all about finding creative ways to reclaim and repurpose items.

Market workers said it was busier than a typical Sunday market — just two hours after it opened, they had already seen about 650 customers walk through.
