A Peterborough educational assistant accused of having threesomes with underage students steadfastly maintains her innocence.
Karen Bagshaw, 59, is charged with two counts each of sexual exploitation, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, luring, accessing child pornography and making sexually explicit material available. The boys were about 13 and 14 years old when the alleged incidents occurred between 2013 and 2015.
The former Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board employee admitted in court that some online chats between herself and one of the two boys “occasionally” strayed into sexual territory, the Peterborough Examiner reports
Before proceedings wrapped up ahead of Easter weekend, Asst. Crown Lisa Wannamaker pointed to a 2011 Facebook Messenger conversation between Bagshaw and the second alleged victim when he was in Grade 8.
Among the contents:
— The boy said he had a “big thing.” She told him to “tarp it up.” Bagshaw also later told him to “keep his hog in its pen.”
— Once, when she asked him what he was doing, he replied that he was masturbating. She then asked if there were “no girls around?”
— The boy wrote to her that he was “banging girls.” Bagshaw testified she didn’t believe that was sexual.
She told her lawyer on the stand Wednesday that she attempted to move the conversations away from sex.
Bagshaw wrote at the end of the school year: “What am I going to do without the boys?”
As she explained it to the court: “I got to know all of the students because that was part of my job.”
Closing arguments are slated to begin Wednesday.
