A 17-year-old male has been charged with stunting after being caught driving 62 km over the posted speed limit, according to police.
The incident happened on Saturday at 9:05 p.m. when an officer with the RCMP's Cape Breton Traffic Services in North Sydney was monitoring highway 105. The officer saw a Kia Forte driving at a high speed. The speed radar clocked the driver at 132 km/hour in the 70 km/hour zone.
After the driver was stopped, the vehicle was seized and impounded. The driver was charged with stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, which carries a fine of $2,422.50 in Nova Scotia. Police also charged the driver with illegally transporting cannabis under the Cannabis Control Act.
The driver is also being investigated for possession of a prohibited weapon which was found when RCMP searched the vehicle.
