INVERNESS, N.S. — A craft brewery in western Cape Breton has closed its bar due to COVID-19 concerns.

Route 19 Brewing Inc. announced on Twitter that the precautionary closure came after staff learned that a customer hadn’t self-isolated after travelling from outside Atlantic Canada.

The brewery said the person was in their taproom Sunday at about noon. The tweet said the facility was thoroughly sanitized Monday but they decided to close to “ensure the safety of our staff and guests.”

“We are working with public health authorities to determine when it will be appropriate to reopen our taproom,” the tweet reads. “Be assured that the health and safety of our customers and staff is our top priority.”

Calls to Route 19 Brewing Inc. were not answered Tuesday.

Located on Route 19 directly across from the Cabot Links golf course, the multimillion-dollar facility was opened by a group of investors in April 2019. It includes a brewhouse, tasting room, retail shop and 300-seat restaurant.
