SYDNEY, N.S. — Eight people made court appearances Wednesday charged in connection with an alleged assault against a 42-year-old man by a group of high school students.
Each of the eight, seven youth and one adult, are charged with assault that is alleged to have occurred Oct. 20 in Glace Bay.
The youths, six males and one female, range in age from 14 to 17. Given their ages, their names are banned from publication.
Also charged is 18-year-old Christopher Alexander Cameron of Dominion. He is scheduled to return to provincial court Dec. 15 to enter a plea.
The youths are scheduled back in youth court on Dec. 16 to enter pleas.
The individuals were charged after a video surfaced on several social media sites showing a group of youths punching and kicking an individual.
The incident occurred on a footpath between the Glace Bay Superstore and Glace Bay High School.
The man was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Federal jail sentence imposed

A 20-year-old Sydney man with no prior record has been sentenced to serve a two-year jail sentence on a charge of drug trafficking.
Keegan Andrew Koleszar of Harold Street was sentenced after pleading guilty to possession for the purpose of trafficking in cocaine. The offence occurred in Sydney in June 2019.
Koleszar was stopped by police while driving a vehicle. A subsequent search revealed more than 100 grams of cocaine.
In addition to the jail sentence, Koleszar is also banned from possessing firearms for 10 years and is to submit a DNA sample to the national registry.
He also pleaded guilty to a charge of impaired driving for which he was fined $1,050 and banned from driving for one year.
