A Calgary man admitted he was high on methamphetamine when he struck and killed a 15-year-old boy in a hit-and-run collision north of Winnipeg last August.

Justin Joseph Little pleaded guilty Wednesday in a Winnipeg courtroom to charges that included impaired driving causing death after he struck Ben Harris, 15, of the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews, and a friend on Aug. 10, 2018.

Harris and his friend had been riding their bikes on a road late in the evening.

Court heard Harris was killed at the scene while his friend was injured.

After the vehicle became disabled in a ditch, the driver fled on foot but was captured by Mounties with a canine unit nearby in another vehicle. Needles were found on Little following the collision.

Little, 29 at the time of the collision, is expected to face sentencing in February.
