A three-year-old girl died Saturday after she was found unconscious in an above-ground pool in Noyan, a town 75 kilometres south of Montreal.

Valérie Beauchamp, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, said the provincial police received a call at around 11:15 a.m. reporting that the young girl had been found in the pool outside a home on la 3e Concession Road in Noyan, which is part of the Haut-Richelieu Regional County Municipality.

The girl was taken to a hospital where she was declared dead later in the day, Beauchamp said while adding the SQ still had an investigator on the scene late in the afternoon to determine what happened. Beauchamp was not certain whether the girl resided at the home where she drowned.

“It is a reminder to adults that they have to be vigilant when it comes to pools and children,” Beauchamp said.
