SUMMERSIDE – A Summerside man was jailed Friday after being caught allegedly spray painting a graffiti tag on a downtown building.

At about 5 a.m., Summerside police observed two people, a 27-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, on the roof of a Water Street business allegedly in the act of tagging the building.

Both were arrested at the scene.

The man is being held in custody until he appears in court, expected to be later Friday, while the woman was released and will be appearing in Summerside provincial court at a later date.

The accused male is being charged with one count of mischief for the Friday morning incident, but in a statement, Summerside police officials said he already has two outstanding graffiti charges pending against him.

The city has been plagued by graffiti artists in recent months, with two tags – “Bucko” and “Tekoe” – in particular, dominating the landscape. Police have not said if this most recent arrest is related to either of those tags but did release a photo following Friday morning’s arrests.
