SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - An Abram-Village man has been sentenced to jail after pleading guilty to biting a woman while she was asleep.
Clinton Jean Arsenault was charged with one count of assault on Nov. 1, 2018. He pleaded guilty.
Arsenault had been staying in the woman’s home that night. She woke up in the early morning to him biting her hand.
The victim managed to get away, someone else in the home called 911 and they fled to a neighbour’s house.
When officers arrived and arrested Arsenault, they noted he had been drinking alcohol and he had blood on his teeth and gums.
“I shouldn’t have been drinking. I know I shouldn’t have – that’s why I haven’t drank since. It was just not a good situation and I wish it never happened."

Arsenault has two previous assault convictions, both from a number of years ago.
He was sentenced to serve 10 days in jail, which he received permission to do intermittently, and must serve 18 months of probation.
When Judge Jeff Lantz asked Arsenault if he had anything to say for himself, the accused said he was sorry and didn’t remember much of that night.
“I shouldn’t have been drinking. I know I shouldn’t have – that’s why I haven’t drank since. It was just not a good situation and I wish it never happened,” said Arsenault.
