SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - While playing instruments and singing as a family has become part of their festive tradition, the Brown siblings are excited to share with an audience their love of Christmas and, above all, the importance of being charitable during the cold shoulder of the season.
“We’re hosting a family-friendly event at Evermoore Brewing Company in downtown Summerside and we will dip into our childhood Christmas, bringing our traditions alive,” shared Maria Bourgeois.
“A lot of people know us and our background, so we will be sharing jokes, singing Christmas carols, and playing a variety of instruments that include a guitar, piano, ukulele, a tambourine, drum, and manditar (a six-string mandolin for guitar players, which is tuned like a guitar, but an octave higher),” she continued.
The Brown Sisters Christmas concert will support Anderson House, which is a family violence prevention centre based in Charlottetown, as well as the Summerside charity called No Questions Asked. Period.
“There are a number of women in the community that struggle with purchasing feminine hygiene products because when you have a family and have to choose between groceries or your own hygiene then you choose to buy groceries,” said Rachel Reeves.
“The charity, started by Megan Bearisto and Kassidy Arsenault, had lots of donations after [the group went public in September] and we just really want to help them continue with this for the long run. We understand the struggle as women because they are expensive products for anybody, but they are necessary for hygiene,” she stated.
The sisters that will be joined for a song by their four brothers.
“We will have a donation box as admission for people that want to drop off feminine products,” Bourgeois said, and acknowledged the feminine hygiene products can be donated to local food banks and similar charities.
Monetary donations will also be accepted.
“We will also be offering these feminine hygiene products that we collect on the night to Anderson House.”
The Christmas concert will take place at Evermoore Brewing Company on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served during the intermission.
Evermoore is donating the space and Caseley’s Tent and Party Rentals are providing the seats.
