The annual Sorensen Family Christmas concert will be held Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the South Shore United Church in Tryon.
The title of the concert, “There’s Music in the Air”, was named after a song of the same name, composed by George Frederick Root and Fanny Crosby in 1857.
The lyrics of the song describe the delightful sounds of music representing the spirit of place – the bright and laughing sky, a distant mountain stream, a grateful shade, and the gentle sigh of twilight.
The program includes a wide range of music, singing, and stories for the Christmas season, reflecting on these sentiments.
Also, in keeping with the Canada 150 celebrations this year, several selections will be included in the program, which were written around the time of Confederation.
“The pleasant acoustics of the historic Harris church will lend a special charm to the evening’s performance,” says concert producer, Jack Sorensen.
Lunch and a time for Christmas socializing in the Howatt Memorial Centre will complete the evening’s entertainment.
Admission to the Dec. 8 concert is a freewill offering with all donations going to support the church, located at #85 Route 10 in Tryon.
