WINSLOE, P.E.I. – On Monday, the Winsloe United Church will host a tribute to the late Rita MacNeil presented by Colleen MacPhee, the voice of Rita MacNeil in the popular group Lady Singers of Our Century.
MacPhee will be joined by Jacinta MacDonald, a longtime friend, and together they present a harmony of depth and smoothness appreciated by their listening audiences.
Special guest, Acadian fiddler Louise Arsenault opens the Aug. 13 show with a high-energy performance beginning at 7:30 p.m.
MacDonald has won many talent shows and has performed at Country Music Week in Hamilton, Ont., and at the Canadian National Exhibition in Vancouver, B.C. She is featured on the Christmas album “Stars of the Island” and has recorded her own album, “Good Old Maritimes.” She was the opening act for Wayne Rostand from the “On the Road Again” television show and is involved in the music ministry at her church.
Arsenault displayed an interest in Acadien fiddle music from the age of seven, coming from a musical background. She has often been referred to as “the fiddler with the unstoppable feet” because while she is seated, Arsenault step-dances her way through the tunes of the night. She has had a long, impressive career in music, playing the fiddle in traditional/folk settings all over the world. Her part in the group Barachois took her to all four corners of the planet. Her life-long dream was to produce a recording with her family which she succeeded in doing.
This event is a fundraising ceilidh for the church located at 121 Winsloe Road. Tickets are $10 at the door which open at 6:30 p.m. The church is wheelchair accessible. A light lunch will be served.
