SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A desire to make people happy led to a Summerside resident displaying her Canadian pride earlier this week.

Catheryn Tyrell, who lives on Notre Dame Street, set up shop in the driveway of her mother, June Walters, on Central Street. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Canada Day, Tyrell waved a Canadian flag and danced around with dance music playing in the background.

“With all the COVID stuff going on with the Island, I wanted to bring joy to Canada Day. I love making people happy and I love making people smile.”

“With all the COVID stuff going on with the Island, I wanted to bring joy to Canada Day,” said Tyrell, who acknowledged the support of her mother and her husband, Quinton Darke.

“I love making people happy and I love making people smile.”

People took notice and made it known her efforts were appreciated.

“Everybody who drove by was honking and waving,” said Darke, who spent most the day waving at people from the driveway.

“A policeman went by and put his siren on and the mayor of Summerside (Basil Stewart) went by honking. There were a lot of smiles.”

Tyrell, who admitted she was sore and a little sunburnt on Thursday, stayed hydrated by drinking lots of water and juice.
