Nova Scotians love to camp. As soon as the warm summer sun begins to shine, families load up their cars with a tent and all the camping gear needed for an outdoor adventure. As wonderful as camping can be, it involves a lot of packing and prepping. Over the last few years, the idea of "glamping" in nature has really taken off around the globe. People are looking to experience the feeling of camping in a tent, but with amenities and creature comforts all set up before you arrive.
Natura Wilderness resort, located Ellershouse is a 40-minute drive from Downtown Halifax, yet it feels like you are miles away from everything. Driving up the country road leads you to three safari-inspired, solar glamping tents. When you unzip the tent you feel as though you have arrived in your home away-from-home. The tents have cozy queen-sized beds with fresh white linens, a dining table and even a pantry cupboard stocked with utensils.
Natura wilderness tents all have little wood decks with a bistro table and chairs, propane stove, and a cooler filled with ice for when you arrive. They are off-grid, so no wi-fi, meaning it’s just you and nature. Since it is glamping, there are showers and two full bathrooms just beside the tents; no roughing it here.
If you love blueberries and birds, this is the place to glamp. The fields are covered in fresh blueberries to indulge in. The birds love hanging out along the nearby trail that weaves its way through the forest down to a little stream. You are guaranteed to spot eastern kingbirds, and downy woodpeckers along the way.
At nightfall, the glamping tents light up with twinkling lights. You can build a campfire, roast some s’mores and gaze up at the abundance of stars filling the night sky.
