MOUNT STEWART, P.E.I. — The public is encouraged to get active this winter by taking part in an upcoming snowshoe event.

The Hillsborough River Association, with the support of the Rural Municipality of Mount Stewart and the Eastern Region Sport and Recreation Council, will host the event on the Pigot’s Trail in Mount Stewart on Saturday, Jan. 25. 

Participants are invited to gather at the Mount Stewart Community Complex, South Main Street, at 10 a.m. for refreshments, a brief snowshoe clinic with basic instructions, fitting of snowshoes for those new to snowshoeing and an orientation to the Pigot’s Trail. 

There will also be a display of historic pictures.

There is no charge for this event, however donations are always welcome. 

This event is intended for all ages and abilities as well as for those who would like to try this kind of pleasurable outdoor activity. 

Participants can proceed at their own pace. 

Group leaders will provide support as required and note items of interest such as winter birds, animal tracks, plants and historic sites. 

For those without snowshoes, some will be provided.

Participants are asked to gather at 10 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m.

The tour will take about an hour and a half.

The route commences at the Community Complex and runs along the Hillsborough River in Mount Stewart and Allisary, as well as through wooded areas and fields, then returns to the complex for hot refreshments and socialization. 

Should snow conditions or weather be unacceptable, the alternate date will be Feb. 1.
