GLACE BAY, N.S. — The Savoy Theatre is aiming to please this spring with two well-known productions coming to the stage and a special deal to help audiences see both shows.

The theatre is busy preparing for their latest musical, “Cinderella,” written by Neptune Theatre’s Jeremy Webb. That show will be staged April 2-4 of this year.

Because audiences have never stopped asking for another showing of “Mamma Mia!” which first graced the Savoy stage in June of 2018, the theatre has decided to bring the show back in 2021.

“But we’ve always wanted to try it with an all local Cape Breton cast, and people never stop asking for it,” said Leader. “We were finally able to secure the rights for 2021… and so we’re excited to announce, we’re going to bring it back with a local cast.”

To celebrate both shows, the Savoy is offering a ticket package for a limited time. Anyone who purchases a regular-priced ticket to see the new upcoming musical “Cinderella,” playing at the Savoy this April will have an opportunity to purchase a ticket for “Mamma Mia” at half price for a savings of almost $30. “Mamma Mia” will be staged May 26 to May 30, 2021.

The Savoy is also offering the deal to anyone who previously purchased tickets to “Cinderella.” This offers ends Feb. 28, 2020.

The Cinderella production has been cast with Cape Breton actors, says Leader, and their names will be announced soon.

“We’re fortunate to have an incredible pool of talent to draw from, and these types of shows allow us to employ people from our own communities, to do what they love to do, and take home a decent pay check for it,” said Leader. “That’s very important to us. It’s a large part of why we even exist.”

Cinderella was written by Jeremy Webb with musical arrangements by Lisa St. Clair. The production will be directed by Ron Jenkins and will be musically directed by Stephen Muise.
