Thank You songs, collected together in a YouTube playlist
After yesterday's playlist paying tribute to the trucking industry workers who are coping with stress and border lineups and who knows what else to keep the supply chain moving, it seemed wrong to not do something for front-line medical staff who are trying to keep us healthy no matter what ailment or issue we might be dealing with right now. The first suggestion that came to me via Twitter was a beautiful song by the late John Mann, the former Spirit of the West member and solo performer who passed away last year. A decade or so ago, he also came through a battle with cancer and wrote the song Thank You as a tribute to the Vancouver doctors, nurses and hospital staff who helped him through those dark days, and that seemed like the perfect place to start.
After that got the ball rolling, I realized that genuine, compassionate songs for doctors and nurses might be in short supply, and I didn't want to come up with a list of songs that included something like Motley Crue's Dr. Feelgood or Robert Palmer singing "Doctor, doctor, give me the news/I've got a bad case of loving you." But what I did find was a plethora of songs that simply say thank-you, in a variety of heartfelt ways. So in that spirit, I send out these following songs to anyone who's going the extra mile to bring comfort or shelter or daily essentials to those of us who need it most.
