Canadians love to binge-watch with family pooch

Another day of binge-watching your favourite series? Don’t forget your dog.

Canadians certainly aren’t, according to a new report.

Many are waiting for their favourite pooch to join them before starting on their favourite programs.

The report from The Dog People at Rover.com reveals that our dogs are part of our down time – and that the show doesn’t start without them, with 45% of dog parents admitting to waiting for Fido to show up before switching on Netflix or whatever favourite streaming site they use.

The recent media release also reported that, since the pandemic, people are binge-watching more than ever, and that in most cases, dogs are the preferred welcome choice to join in on the viewing.

In fact, dogs ranked Number One when asked who people prefer to kick back and watch TV or movies with – over partners, friends or even kids!

Most popular television shows and movies watched with the four-legged critic? Comedies, followed by action shows. Turns out the pups also react to what’s happening on the screen with either barking or reacting when other animals appear.

And dogs have their favourites, including Friends, Paw Patrol, Stranger Things and Animal Planet.

The report shows the majority (69%) of Canadians “try to accommodate their dog’s comfort while binge-watching TV and movies by letting them cozy up on the couch, hog the blankets or even lay on top of them,” says the report. And yes, the majority of dog parents allow snacking for their pets, too.

And when the folks aren’t around? Well, doggy parents admit to leaving their devices on for their pooches to enjoy.
