BADDECK, N.S. — The building that once housed a popular country market store in downtown Baddeck now has a new owner.

The Bras d’Or Lakes Day Camps Association has announced this week the purchase of the building at 490 Chebucto St., which was home to the Kidston Landing Country Market for three decades before shutting down in 2016.

The social enterprise and non-profit organization, also known as BOLD, formed in 2017 and moved into the vacant building a year later to operate its living-learning centre.

“This acquisition will allow us to ‘Be BOLD’ in new and exciting ways,” founder and chief executive Madison Greening said in a news release.

The group offers day camps and after-school learning for children, as well as an array of other alternative educational and recreational programming for children and adults.

Last month, Greening and recreation co-ordinator Gaby Braun went before the Municipality of Victoria County to seek funding for a social wellness centre.

No details were provided on the cost of the purchase, but according to a realtor.ca listing, the purchase price for the building and property was $409,000.
