The third animal to be profiled in the 2019 edition of the 12 Strays of Christmas is Marissa.

This shy three-year-old black-and-white short-haired cat just finished raising her eight kittens and is looking for a “furever home”.

Marissa enjoys her independence but also enjoys staying close to her humans.

She would prefer to be the only pet and would be OK with older children.

Pet Tip No. 3

To help pets avoid injuries, ensure that the Christmas tree is firmly set in place. A playful or curious pet may run into or climb the tree, knocking it over. Citrus peelings may deter cats.

Also, be sure to avoid the use of chemicals in the water as pets may drink this water and become ill.

The 12 Strays of Christmas is a joint project between The Guardian and the P.E.I. Humane Society. For more information, contact the P.E.I. Humane Society at www.peihumanesociety.com or 902-892-1190.
