CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Prince Edward Island Genealogical Society is holding its next public meeting on Feb. 22 at Beaconsfield’s Carriage House.

This year marks the 300th anniversary of the founding of the colony of Île Saint-Jean. In recognition of this significant historical event, historian, author and folklorist Georges Arsenault will be the guest speaker.

The title of his presentation is Place Names and Families of Île Saint-Jean.  He will provide a glimpse into the early colony under the French regime and share stories on some of the families that lived in the early communities.

Arsenault will also have his latest book titled Illustrated History of the Acadians of Prince Edward Island available for sale at a cost of $20.

All are welcome. The meeting runs 2-4 p.m., and admission is free. Refreshments will be available.

The meeting is a great opportunity to network with others and support genealogy and heritage by considering a membership in the society.
