Wanting to visit unique shops, markets and artisan galleries during your staycation? Then Nova Scotia’s South Shore is your staycation destination!

Whether you are headed out to explore the South Shore for the very first time or on a visit of rediscovery, the opportunity to browse and buy abounds from Barrington, Lobster Capital of Canada, to Peggy’s Cove and all stops in between.

Stroll the streets in the Seaside Village of Chester and explore the many shops of the Chester Merchants Association. Meander the aisles as you look for that just-right gift, whether it be for a friend or for yourself. Perhaps you’re sending a piece of the South Shore to someone who wasn’t able to visit this year. You will want to shop, dine, play and stay — we know you will!

On the South Shore, even our museums offer the chance for a shopping outing. At the Barrington Museum Complex giftshop, Samantha Brannen and the team will assist as you select from handmade, locally crafted works featuring lobsters, lighthouses and tartan, whether it be Nova Scotian or Barrington. You can even watch the hand spinning, dyeing and weaving of the wool.

When you can’t pick just one spot to stop, head for Coastal Queens Craft Market and wander your way through the works of more than 60 artisans and crafters, who proudly sell their work in the rooms of this Port Mouton converted school.

The markets along the South Shore guarantee you will be able to take a morsel of your adventure home with you and a visit to Wile’s Lake Farm Market will fill your senses and your belly. Butter tarts, doughnuts, tea biscuits and ginger sparkle cookies — better buy extra because we are betting you’ll be nibbling before your next stop.

Your next stop might just be to watch a local artist while he paints. Andre Haines can often be found painting near the picturesque coastline of the South Shore. Should you happen upon him, we are SHORE you’ll want to stop and visit.

And when you return home and pull your “Nova Scotia Strong” T-shirt from Stan’s Dad and Lad Shop in Lunenburg over your head and think of your visit, we know you’ll agree that Nova Scotia’s South Shore is where good times are a SHORE thing and we’ll “sea” you again soon.
