SUMMERSIDE – Staff at Credit Union Place are gearing up for a jam packed New Year’s Eve.
Stefanie Turner, the event and corporate services administrator, said it will be a mixture of returning favourites and new entertainment.
“We have the classic hot cocoa and cookies and Credit Union swag tent, which all the kids get really excited over.”
Skate with Elsa, the Capitals, inflatables and the Pendergasts are also returning.
“We’ve also got a rock wall in the pool, and I think there will be games and competitions with prizes to win.
“Mr. Magic will be here and we’ll have Twist It Balloon Creations and face painting as well for people of all ages.”
This year, the Fit Stop will be open from 12 to 4 p.m. while the walking track will be closed for the day.
New Year’s festivities will run from 4 to 8 p.m.
Last year was a success and Turner is expecting the same turnout to begin ringing in 2018.
“It grows a little bit every year, and like every year, we always see new faces come into the facility which is equally exciting.”
A new addition this year is the fireworks display set to close the night, which will begin at 8 p.m.
“We’ll start to get people out of the facility around 7:45 p.m. so they can grab a hot cocoa and then get ready for the show. We had them before when we had the activities outside at Queen Elizabeth Park, but we haven’t had them for New Year’s Eve in a while. We’re excited to have them back.”
Turner says events like this bring the community together.
“It’s always really great to see people come out and celebrate. Our favourite part has to be when there’s a lot of energy and activity in the facility. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
