P.E.I. initiative to prevent, address workplace sexual harassment

The P.E.I. Human Rights Commission has launched a new project to provide education and resources to Island workplaces to help prevent and address sexual harassment in the workplace. 

Shift is a five-year project fully funded by the Department of Justice Canada and offered through the P.E.I. Human Rights Commission. 

Following the #MeToo movement, the commission noticed an increase in inquiries and education requests related to workplace sexual harassment.

Working with community partners, Shift strives towards an Island-wide understanding of the issue, opening up the conversation and providing tools and guidance for employers, employees, and high school students entering the workforce.

Registration is open for fall 2020 workshops for employers, offered virtually and free of charge. This set of workshops is designed for employers, managers and anyone who works in Human Resources. 

Shift works with community partners, including the RISE program offered by Community Legal Information. 

Along with the workshops, the project also includes a guide for developing policy and procedures, ongoing work on creating materials for high school students and materials and workshops for employees that include management alert systems, bystander training and best practices for contributing to safe workplace culture for all. It is being developed locally to serve Islanders and is an initiative of the P.E.I. Human Rights Commission.
