CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Anna's Pink and Purple Glasses, a children's storybook written by Marlene Bryenton and illustrated by Leanne Bowlan, will soon be in the hands of hundreds of kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students very soon.

Two additional sponsors have made it possible for the book to be given as a gift to all Public Schools Branch kindergarten and Grade 2 students across the Island. It will also be sponsored in Grade 1 classrooms and libraries as well as Grade 2 classrooms. These will be retained in the school.

CUPE Prince Edward Island is the newest sponsor.

“Our union has always stood for literacy as a basic human right and a fundamental way to improve the lives of every individual and our society as a whole," says Leonard Gallant, CUPE president.

"It is in this spirit that CUPE P.E.I. is honoured to support local author Marlene Bryenton’s recent work titled Anna’s Pink and Purple Glasses. This children’s book discusses the importance of not only eye exams, but also touches subjects such as inclusion and acceptance. These are important lessons to introduce to our youth. We are proud to have sponsored copies of Anna’s

Pink and Purple Glasses which will be donated to kindergarten and Grade 2 classes across the Island. We believe this book will be a great tool to start discussions about the importance of reading, inclusion in our schools and much more,”

The Prince Edward Island Association of Optometrists is also pleased to be a sponsor of the book, which is about empathy, inclusion, awareness and optometry.

“Reading is a very important skill and having eyes that are healthy and work correctly makes reading easier. It is important to remember that most children who have difficulties with their vision do not realize there is a problem. Routine eye examinations with optometrists are key to discovering eye health and vision problems and can help children develop normal long-term vision,” says Dr. Carolyn Acorn, OD president, PEIAO.

A book signing for Anna's Pink and Purple Glasses will be held at Vogue Optical, Sherwood location, today, 1-3 p.m. Orders may also be placed now for the book at 902-892-8931.

CUPE Prince Edward Island will be one of the sponsors for Jaya's Magic Wheelchair, an upcoming book also written by Bryenton, as well as Rotary Club of Stratford and Rotary Club of Charlottetown Royalty,” says Bryenton, adding the team is currently seeking sponsors.
