National Nurses Week is underway, an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the significant contributions of the nursing community to Prince Edward Island and Canada.

This year’s theme, Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Nursing the World to Health, is especially fitting as nurses continue to foster meaningful change in health care for the betterment of all citizens in the midst of fighting a global pandemic.

Whether it be during a pandemic such as coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) or in routine daily care, nurses play a critical role in the health and well-being of Prince Edward Islanders and their communities, said Premier Dennis King in a news release.

“As a province, we are fortunate to have more than 2,000 nurse professionals – nurse practitioners, registered nurses and licensed practical nurses – working in a variety of settings across our province," said King.

"Each one works with courage and compassion under challenging circumstances, always putting the needs of those who they care for first.”
