Flutist Morgan Saulnier along with pianist Frances McBurnie will be presenting two evenings of rich and evocative flute repertoire Friday at the Kirk of St. James in Charlottetown and Dec. 11 at Hillcrest Church in Montague.

Both shows start at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 7 p.m.

Saulnier and McBurnie have been making music together for nearly two decades, with performances spanning from P.E.I. to British Columbia. This program will feature works by Griffes, Deutilleux, Handel, Srul Irving Glick and others.

Saulnier holds a master’s in flute performance from Memorial University in St. John’s, N.L., and a bachelor of music from UPEI. She has performed in several master classes and competitions across the country, receiving instruction from Michel Debost, Susan Hoeppner, Camille Churchfield and others.

Saulnier is principal flute of the P.E.I. Symphony Orchestra (PEISO), a core member of Eklektikos – a chamber ensemble focused on new Canadian works – and has been a sessional instructor in the UPEI music department since 2009. She maintains an active role in the music scene on Prince Edward Island and is in high demand as a flute and piano educator, soloist and collaborator. In 2014, she released a CD of French Flute Music with pianist Mark Ramsay.

McBurnie grew up in Nova Scotia and has degrees from Mount Allison University and the University of Western Ontario. She came to the Island to fill a one-year appointment at UPEI and has stayed ever since.

She has established a reputation for her wide body of work as collaborative pianist, performing with numerous highly regarded Canadian artists and aspiring proteges. She’s also in demand as a teacher, adjudicator and organist, and has performed as soloist with the PEISO and the Strathgartney Chamber Orchestra. McBurnie is the organist and director of music at the Kirk of St. James.

Tickets are $25 or $20 for seniors and students. Tickets for Friday’s performance in Charlottetown can be purchased in advance at flutekirk.eventbrite.ca, while tickets for the Dec. 11 performance can be purchased at hillcrestrecital.eventbrite.ca.
