CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Mary Jo Leddy, author, activist and founder of Romero House will be the keynote speaker at a weekend information session entitled “Welcoming refugees…do we?”
The event will take place Saturday, Nov. 16, 12:30 - 4 p.m., at the Murchison Centre, 17 St. Pius X Ave. in Charlottetown.
“We are delighted that Mary Jo Leddy is able to be with us,” says Bishop Grecco. “She is a highly respected defender of refugee rights and freedoms with much insight and knowledge to share.”
Leddy has been the director of Romero House in Toronto, a refuge for refugees for almost 30 years. She has authored several books highlighting her life experiences and lessons learned from journeying with refugees. She is a member of the Order of Canada and a recipient of numerous honorary doctorates.
Leddy is a much-acclaimed speaker who is thought-provoking and inspiring. She will be sharing her deep personal experiences and understanding in her talk.
Her key-note address will be followed by a panel discussion and then an opportunity to participate in a small group discussion. In this way, the afternoon promises to be most informative and engaging.
